JBL L100, L82, L52 and L75MS in High Gloss Black

JBL likes to party. With the professional roots, dynamics is one of JBL’s main spearheads. The JBL Classic series, of which the L100 with its iconic orange foam front is probably the most memorable, adds a huge dose of fun to this formula. No wonder that this reincarnation of the legendary L100 from the 1970s is loved and praised. Coveted by style and music lovers who like to see and hear things a little different. Some call it retro, we just call it super cool speakers. The Classic series now has 3 models. The L100 that started it all, the more compact L82 and the tiny L52. All with walnut cabinet and choice of a Quadrex Foam fronts in orange, blue or black. The line is completed with a cross between the L100 and the Paragon of yesteryear, JBL’s L75MS Music System. A fantastic solution that packs those Classic looks into an active stereo speaker working as a complete one box music system. But of course, we also understand that this classic walnut look is not for everyone. That is why JBL now brings these 4 models from the Classic family in a limited High Gloss Black Edition.

The Knight Rider

Just like KITT from the legendary American television series of the 80s, this Black Edition is as black as night, with a nice shine and some sneaky extras. For example, the loudspeaker magicians from Northridge have provided the L100 with a few technical updates that strengthen the cabinet even more, further refine the crossover filter and make the woofer even more powerful. Together with a more luxurious bi-wire connection terminal, black Quadrex foam front and gold accents in the JBL logo and around the tone control, the L100 Black Edition is not just a cosmetic metamorphosis. This Black Beauty sounds just a bit more subtle in the mid and high frequencies, creates an even freer image and swings basslines into the room with even more depth and control.

The L82 has also been tuned at crucial points for just a little extra performance. Small adjustments to the drivers, higher quality bi-wire connection terminal and better components in the crossover, just like the L100. Improvements that translate into a sound that makes it difficult to sit still. Of course we also find the black checkered foam front and gold accents with this L82 Black Edition.

The smallest of the family is the L52 Black Edition. In addition to the high-gloss black finish in which David Hasselhoff can comb his hair and gold accents, the L52 has remained technically unchanged. No shame, because the L52 is simply a beastly fine speaker. In this Black Edition it looks even more compact, making its energetic sound character even more impressive than its walnut variant.

JBL L75MS Black Gloss Edition

Where we can compare the above Classic models with KITT, which was originally built as a Pontiac Firebird, JBL’s L75MS is a bit of an odd bird in the family… No passive speaker where you need 2 for stereo, supplemented with a separate amplifier and source, but a complete stereo music system – including amplifier and music streamer – in one housing. Despite the fact, or rather thanks to the fact that the L75MS can hardly be called compact, it produces a gigantic sound image. It is clear where JBL got the inspiration from. Just Google JBL Paragon and you’ll understand what we mean. The curved foam front and classic walnut finish clearly make the L75MS part of the Classic family while its features and applications make it the most modern gentleman in the lineup.

No wonder that JBL has also slected this model for the chic High Gloss Black metamorphose. It transforms the L75MS that let’s you enjoy your music through various apps from a visual classic to hypermordern. Yet we doubt whether he will also come to you when you call him…

Black Gloss Limited Edition – available mid-April 2023

The new and limited-built Black Edition models will be available mid-April 2023. Stock is limited so unfortunately when they are gone they are realy gone. So do not hesitate with ordering. The prices are slightly higher than the standard walnut versions, but in our opinion, given the super luxurious high-gloss finish and local technical improvements, they are actually very modest.
