Matrix Audio – history

Matrix Audio originated from the friendship of 3 classmates in Xi’an, China with a shared passion for high-end audio. After several hobby projects during their studies, they decided to turn their dream into reality after graduating in 2006. With the combined knowledge in the field of digital signal processing and extreme enthusiasm, the start of Matrix Audio and the introduction of their first DAC is a fact. Now, 18 years later, Matrix Audio is a mature brand with a huge focus on Streaming Audio and top-class Digital to Analog conversion with an almost holistic approach. Everything has to be right, from sound to user interface. That balance is Matrix Audio’s biggest goal, and we can tell you – they use it to make really cool products!

MATRIX AUDIO MINI-I PRO 4

The mini-i Pro 4 is super compact music streamer with a width of approximately 22cm that, thanks to the ESS Saber ES9039Q2M, rule over the ones and zeros over more than have serious sound quality. The models tick off just about every conceivable streaming function you could wish for!

Matrix Audio’s Audio Grade Network Switches, Isolator and Clock

Matrix Audio specializes in high-performance music streamers and DACs where the functionality and build quality are just as impressive as the sound. Precision isolation from external noise and distortion is paramount in every design. The solid chassis, comprehensive (linear) power supplies, and segmented design all contribute to the purest possible conversion of digital data into music. To protect music streamers from interference on the network side as well, Matrix Audio is introducing two fantastic new products: the SS-1 and SS-1 Pro Audio Grade Network Switches.

In addition to the Grade Network Switches, Matrix Audio is introducing the SC-1 Audio Grade Reference Clock. An extremely stable 10MHz clock for devices such as the Matrix Audio SS-1 Pro Network Switch, NT-1 Digital Streaming Transport, and MS-1 Audio Streamer.

The Matrix Audio SI-1 is a high-quality network isolator with one RJ-45 1Gb input and one output, fully isolated internally through unique dual-channel optical isolation. With its internal linear power supply, dual femtosecond clock circuits, and all-aluminum housing, the SI-1 does everything it can to optimally isolate your music streamer from pollution and interference. Completely unique in its class and far beyond.

Matrix Audio’s T -Series

The Matrix Audio TS-1 is an all-in-one music streamer with a high-quality built-in DAC and headphone amp. With five digital inputs, the TS-1 is the perfect interface for the music lover who enjoys combining quality with simplicity. Underneath the aluminum cover, featuring a beautiful perforation pattern and brand logo, lies a super-innovative and versatile piece of technology, because the TS-1 can do so much, so much! The TS-1’s versatility isn’t limited to its inputs; its output options also leave little to be desired. The TS-1 makes the analog signal available via both single-ended (RCA) and balanced (XLR) outputs. These outputs can be configured as fixed or variable, as desired.

Matrix Audio is known for its high-quality headphone amps. The TS-1 contributes significantly to the Matrix legacy: a newly developed, high-bias amplifier circuit specifically designed for high-end headphones delivers sublime detail and definition. The single-ended 6.3mm jack and 4.4mm balanced output are adjustable to two levels, ensuring the TS-1 adapts perfectly to any headphone type.

The Matrix Audio TT-1 is a stunningly beautiful music streamer with only digital outputs: Coaxial (RCA), Optical (Toslink), and AES/EBU, a dedicated USB-DAC output, and an IIS-LVDS output with HDMI connector. Besides the digital outputs, there’s a network port and two USB connections for external hard drives with music or, for example, a CD drive. This makes ripping your own CDs incredibly easy with the TT-1.

The Matrix Audio TT-1 resembles a shrunken version of the MS-1, but without the DAC. The large touchscreen is easy to use and displays all relevant information about the music being played. Of course, the TT-1 is fully controllable via the MA Remote app and is a ROON endpoint. The internal design, with Matrix Audio’s signature focus on isolation and shielding, provides a solid foundation for a pure digital audio signal. The TT-1 also features an internal switching power supply. Also typical of Matrix, the TT-1 is ready for an external, even higher-quality 12V DC power supply to further enhance performance. We can expect this from Matrix Audio in the future as well.

Matrix Audio’s M-Series

Although Matrix Audio has attracted attention in international reviews and in our country mainly with its fantastic Streaming Audio products, there is also a deep expertise in analogue signal processing. Of course, almost all models have a DAC, but it is mainly the sophisticated linear power supply, shielding from interference and analogue output stage that makes a Matrix Audio such an exceptionally fine sounding product. Certainly in relation to the price range! With that expertise and the desire to control the music signal from digital stream to speaker terminal, the engineers at Matrix Audio have brought together all their knowledge in a completely new, all-out M-Series.

The M-series represents the very best of Matrix Audio in six models: a dedicated MS-1 Audio Streamer/DAC with analogue Line Level output, the MS-1P that adds an analogue volume control to the MS-1, the MP-1 Pure Class A preamplifier, the MD-1 and MD-1P Integrated amplifiers and the massive MA-1 stereo power amplifier. That Matrix Audio takes its designs seriously is clear from the first glance. The solid top plate is symbolic of the build quality and pride with which Matrix Audio develops its products. A beautiful perforation pattern for the necessary cooling, interrupted by Matrix Audio’s milled initials. Daring but stylishly executed, just like every line of this stylistic High End series that shows that Matrix Audio thinks about everything.

Matrix Audio’s MD-1 and MD-1P

Matrix Audio’s MD-1 and MD-1P combine everything the beating streaming audio heart desires with a digitally controlled, analog volume control and power amplifier! And all that in that chic, M-Series aluminum housing with Matrix’s signature perforation pattern. Matrix Audio truly developed the MD-1 and MD-1P as the epicenter of a high-quality yet minimalist high-end system. Everything has been thought of; HDMI-eArc input, USB audio input, XLR and RCA analog input, RCA phono input for MM cartridge, HD Bluetooth, Slot for NVMe SSD card, direct CD ripping function with optional USB CD Drive, pre-out and subwoofer outputs. In short, you name it!

Ease of use and simplicity are central to each model. Intuitive operation via clear touchscreen color displays on the front, easy-to-navigate menus and simple network setup ensure that you can quickly enjoy music. In addition, you have access to pretty much all the streaming functions you could wish for. ROON Endpoint, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Qobuz, High Res Audio, Airplay, MQA and audio from the TV via HDMI eArc – Matrix Audio does it all. In addition, all models can be operated fantastically via the MA Player Remote App – Matrix’s own App for streaming audio with a beautiful interface and control of the main functions of your device. What the 3 wise men from Xi’an have managed to create is simply super complete and it sounds great too.
