If we can tip one brand as a rising star than it would be Matrix Audio. From visual design to interface, from sound to collaboration – everything is just right. With the introduction of the M-Series, a new path was formed to Matrix-Audio-Wonderland. The sexy lines of the Major League M-series were recently transformed into the lower-priced TT-1 and NT-1 Digital Streaming Audio transports. During High End Munich, Matrix introduced three new models that follow this trend. We would like to introduce the first one to you: Matrix Audio TS-1 Music Streamer.

TS-1 Music Streamer with DAC

The Matrix Audio TS-1 is Matrix' latest generation, all-in-one Music Streamer with high-quality built-in DAC and headphone amp. With five digital inputs, the TS-1 is the perfect interface for the music lover who likes to combine quality with simplicity. Under the aluminum top plate, featuring a beautiful perforation pattern and brand logo, lies a super-innovative and versatile piece of technology, because the TS-1 can do a lot, a whole lot!

Streaming Audio

The main function of the TS-1 is without a doubt its powerful Streaming Audio platform. Compatible with Tidal-Connect, Qobuz-Connect, Spotify-Connect, Internet Radio and ROON Ready, the TS-1 does almost everything the beating streaming heart wants. However, Matrix Audio is rightly proud of its own MA Player; a fantastic, super intuitive and good-sounding control app available for free for Android and iOS. MA Player gives access to all streaming functions, lets you configure the TS-1 completely to your wishes and also serves directly as a remote for input selection and volume, for example. You can also easily connect the TS-1 to your network via the RJ-45 network port or built-in WiFi antenna.

Interne Storrage

Of course, the TS-1 plays music just as easily from an external NAS that it simply indexed within the MA Player app. However, the TS-1 (just like the TT-1 and NT-1) has another trick on its sleeve: an NVMe SSD Slot accessible via the bottom of the unit. Here you can simply place an SSD card that serves as a local store for your music 'in' the TS-1. This can be done with purchased downloads but also with rips of your own CDs. To do this, simply connect a 5V USB Discdrive to the USB input, follow the steps on the touchscreen and Bob's your uncle!

Digital Audio Inputs

The TS-1 offers access to most conceivable digital sources. There is a Coaxial and Optical digital input, a specific USB-Audio input and an HDMI input including eARC support!

Analoge Aux Input

In addition to the four digital inputs and streaming function, the TS-1 also offers an analogue AUX input via a stereo set of RCA connectors. The MA Player app then lets you freely configure that input for a standard analogue line-level source or, for example, a turntable.

Fixed of Variabel

The versatility of the TS-1 is not limited to the inputs; the output options also leave little to be desired. The TS-1 makes the analogue signal available via both Single-Ended (RCA) and Balanced (XLR) outputs. These outputs can be set as desired in fixed or variable mode. In the first case, the TS-1 always plays at a fixed volume, perfect in combination with an integrated amplifier or preamplifier on which you control the main volume. Or set it to variable, to control the volume output in the MA Remote app. In this case you can connect the TS-1 directly to a power amplifier or active speaker.

Headphone Output

Matrix Audio is known for its high-quality headphone amps. The TS-1 also doesn't cut any corners here either: a newly developed, high-bias amplifier circuit specially designed for high-end headphones delivers sublime detail and definition. The single-ended 6.3mm jack and 4.4mm balanced output are adjustable on two levels so that the TS-1 adapts perfectly, regardless of the type of headphones.

Precision

The degree of precision with which Matrix Audio builds its audio circuits is downright impressive. Two AK4493SEQ DAC chips in Dual-Parallel mode form the lifeblood of the TS-1. The complete digital to analog conversion unfolds in a balanced design for maximum accuracy and dynamic contrast. Each DAC relies on its own power supply line, independent of the other for ultimate precision. A pair of Femto Second Clocks provide the reference frequencies of 44.1kHz and 48kHz sample rates, and their multiples. Here too, Matrix keeps the power supply as clean as possible by providing the Clock with an independently regulated power supply voltage.

The Analog and Digital masterpieces are also each implemented on their own printed circuit board, with left and right separated and built up completely symmetrically. In this way, interference is reduced to an absolute minimum and the ones and zeros are given all the space to be constructed in a pure, analog piece of music.

Matrix Audio's TS-1 continues the path of Matrix's new design in full force. The housing with large, bright touchscreen is compact, beautiful and functional. Its streaming functions and MA Player app are all-encompassing and the sound is sparkling, tight and immersive – beautiful streamer!
