Every great story starts with an idea. In the 1970s, David A. Wilson experimented with loudspeakers constructed from adaptable, modular elements to turn his vision into reality. A deep-rooted belief that the correct timing of all speaker elements is crucial for realistic sound reproduction. It formed the basis of his very first and all subsequent Wilson Audio loudspeakers. A vision that, almost 50 years later, is still one of Wilson Audio’s core identity. With increasingly sophisticated development methods, measurement techniques, production facilities and a relentless quest for perfection, Daryl Wilson directs the execution of this vision to a level his father probably never thought possible. With the Wilson Audio Sasha DAW introduced 5 years ago, he paid tribute to the evolution of the Watt/Puppy and his father’s phenomenal legacy. Now Wilson Audio introduces the very latest Sasha V – the essence of the Sasha combined with the best of the Alexia V and Alexx V.

V for material

Contrary to what is sometimes thought, the V in the Wilson Audio Alexia, Alexx and Sasha does not represent the fifth version, but a unique type of cabinet material. So V-Material. True to the idea that a loudspeaker must convert the electrical signal into an acoustic signal without any form of discoloration, Wilson Audio has been using specially formulated composite sheet materials for its cabinets for years. Because each element has its own working area and resonance characteristic, Wilson has increasingly started using different compositions optimized for its place in the cabinet. For example, the baffle of the woofers is made of X-Material, while the midrange, for which a different degree of internal damping is used, finds its place in an S-Material baffle. First used in the Alexx V, the special composite sandwich material with internal insulating layer now also finds its place in the Sasha V, for example in the spikes and the top plate of the bass module. V-Material is an effective barrier for small resonances and vibrations so that even the last traces of coloration are eliminated. The 25% thicker X-Material side walls of the bass module also contribute to an even stiffer cabinet. Moreover, with a thick 111 kg per speaker, the V has not become any lighter. Yet, thanks to its beautiful, flowing line on the side walls that continues into the head, it looks significantly more elegant than the DAW.

Wilson Audio is characterized by dynamics. The greater the absence of discoloration and noise, the greater the dynamics. This is immediately one of the impressive features of the Sasha V. Musical contrasts are reproduced with even more nuance. Silent is even quieter and minuscule details get even more air without being over emphasized.

Straight to the hart

The midrange is without a doubt the heart of a 3-way loudspeaker. Operating in the frequency range where our ear is extremely sensitive. Determining the authenticity of voice reproduction, the midtones are a crucial part of the speaker. Sasha V owes its midrange to the enormous research that preceded the development of Wilson Audio’s top model, the Chronosonic XVX. Unlike the standard single ring magnet, the special QuadraMag midrange uses four independent Alnico magnets around the voice coil. The Aluminum, Nickel, Cobalt are compact, offer a high field strength, are very heat resistant and can be perfectly shaped for their function. Perfectly concentrating the magnetic field where it is needed – the voice coil. The shape and position of the magnets minimize compression and flow losses that obscure small musical nuances. With the Wilson Audio QuadraMag midrange, the Sasha V lifts its musical expression to the level of the larger Alexia V.

Carbon

The tweeter is indistinguishable from its predecessor. After a long history of ‘inverted titanium dome’ tweeters, Wilson Audio has been choosing the Convergent Synergy textile soft dome tweeter for years now. It features a major evolution in Wilson Audio’s sonic character where subtlety and refinement go hand in hand with the dynamic live character. For the Sasha V, Wilson Audio opts for the very best they have to offer – the Convergent Synergy Carbon tweeter where the feat of art mainly takes place internally. Behind the special soft dome we find a complete 3D printed, acoustically optimized housing made of carbon. With its special shape, material and precisely placed damping materials, Wilson Audio is able to convert every microdetail in the electrical signal into extremely accurate high frequency reproduction without coloring or smearing.

Cut the Cap

Of course, the tweeter is only as good as its supplied signal. Because Wilson Audio believes that maximum performance depends on maximum control, they strive to perform as many disciplines as possible in-house. The capacitors for the crossover are an important part of this. In series with the signal path to the tweeter, the amplifier “looks” through the internal cabling and capacitors at the voice coil of the CSC tweeter. To build that capacitor, and all others in the crossover, completely according to its own specifications and tolerances, Wilson Audio acquired the production machine from Reliable Capacitors (RelCap) a few years ago. With that machine, rapid realization of prototypes and the freedom to develop as you see fit, a completely new Wilson Audio capacitor was created. The AudioCapX-WA. Completely made of copper, handcrafted at and by Wilson Audio, this is the very best capacitor Wilson has ever used. An element that performs the simple function of blocking electrical signal below a specific frequency to perfection. Simply because it does not affect the electrical signal in its pass area in any way and realizes the purest possible transmission. The Wilson Audio Sasha V is the first speaker to use this new, Wilson Audio capacitor.

The sum of it all

We can admit: The Wilson Audio Sasha DAW was perhaps our favorite Wilson Audio Speaker. It is the first model in the Wilson Line Up that can be physically adjusted to the listening distance and height because, like its inspiration from the mid-1980s, it consists of two elements. The actual WATT and the Puppy. Over the years, that combination has evolved and grown physically, but is still relatively compact. In that sense, the DAW represented a kind of sweet spot in the Wilson Audio family. Adjustable and flexible like its bigger brothers without being as massive. In addition, the DAW was and is a tribute from son to father. The new Sasha V retains all those ingredients and adds the V-material and very best of Wilson’s top models. The sum of all those refinements, even higher quality components, unique composite cabinet materials and the more natural lines may make the Sasha V our new favorite.

We already have our demo model on order and hope to roll it through the warehouse door at Reference Sounds in mid-September. Of course we will introduce him to you extensively after the necessary training hours!
