In truth, we have a fantastic profession. We get to delight people with exquisite interior projects where design and high-quality sound come together as a single, coherent whole. We create beautiful, bespoke solutions featuring invisibly integrated technology—filling your room with pure, warm sound rather than with visible speakers. A deep-rooted passion has evolved into a mission, because we believe that great sound certainly doesn’t have to be unsightly.

Some of these projects originate from a specific desire on the part of the client—perhaps an impression of a desired atmosphere, an image from Instagram, or the enthusiasm sparked while browsing our website. Other projects begin with a blank canvas. In this particular case, we started with a living room space that already featured a built-in fireplace, while the client’s primary request was for a cinema-quality sound experience. The result was a complete metamorphosis, with our ‘Cinemawall’ serving as the foundation.

cinemawall scene investigation

But where do you start when there are no clear guidelines? You go looking for answers. In this instance, we met at the client’s home—an energetic woman with two beautiful children and a healthy touch of glamour. Accessories and various elements throughout a home often provide a good indication of the aesthetic the client is aiming for. Over a cup of coffee and armed with a list of questions, we work to sketch out a profile of what the client loves—and what they definitely don’t. Think of it as a ‘Cinemawall Scene Investigation’—minus the harsh blue forensic lights.

Starting with that list and precise measurements of the space, we got to work. First, we determined the optimal position for the Cinemawall in relation to the seating area. High-quality sound is the foundation of all our designs; to us, a Cinemawall without fantastic sound is nothing more than a wall—it might look good, but it has nothing to do with a true cinematic experience. We chose the Cinemawall Model L as our base. Equipped with five speakers and two subwoofers, it provides the foundation for a wonderful movie night. All this technology is concealed from view by a special, acoustically transparent fabric—a signature feature of all our Cinemawall models.

The left and right front speakers flank the TV. The acoustic center of each speaker is positioned at the perfect height—aligned with both the center speaker and the listener’s ears—ensuring that sounds originating to the left or right of the TV correspond precisely with the on-screen action. The center speaker is placed beneath the TV; using the same model as the front speakers ensures maximum coherence, while a slightly tilted baffle guarantees optimal sound dispersion. Two effect speakers, positioned in the outer corners of the “Cinemawall,” handle the surround channel information. While the ideal placement for surround speakers is typically to the side or behind the listener, this is not always practical or desirable. Our alternative—which utilizes reflections off the side walls or ceiling, combined with specialized calibration within the surround processing—offers an exceptionally effective compromise. The result is a grand, immersive soundscape that truly envelops the listener. Simply fantastic.

A full, controlled bass response is, without question, the cornerstone of a compelling and immersive music or film experience. Without rich, deep tones, music feels stark and soulless. This doesn’t mean we want the teacups rattling off the shelves; on the contrary, a full-bodied response is most important when listening at lower volumes—ensuring that the sound retains its substance and weight. This is precisely what our subwoofers achieve. In this setup, two subwoofers are integrated directly into the Cinemawall and powered by a dedicated amplifier. Precisely tuned using advanced measuring equipment by our calibration specialists, ensuring that King Kong’s roar sounds every bit as impressive as the rhythmic heartbeat in Pink Floyd’s *Dark Side of the Moon*.

STYLISH AND SEAMLESS

The ‘Dark Side’ concept serves as a perfect bridge to our choice of wall color. This isn’t because the client has a dark personality, but rather because she was looking for a bold, clean-lined design that is both stylish and timeless. This starting point became our guiding statement: a wall-to-wall installation where the fireplace is no longer a standalone element, but fully integrated into the space. We sketched out the idea—less for the client’s benefit and more for our own—to give shape to our creative musings and ask ourselves: could this actually work? The lines surrounding the ‘Cinemawall’ evolved into a continuous base cabinet, paired with a playful arrangement of compartments and niches that flow seamlessly into the fireplace—creating a corner you just can’t help but keep looking at. Yes, this could turn out to be something truly spectacular.

complete metamorphosis of the living room

Once we are confident in our approach, we set aside the pencil and turn to the computer and mouse to draft the wall in 3D, to scale. This is the point at which we share our initial sketches to gauge whether we are on the right track. Following a brief explanation, a proposal for the materials, and a smile from the client, we were given the green light to further develop the design. From this stage on, we delve deeper into the specifics, transforming a conceptual layout into a fully realized design.

Throughout the process, it becomes clear that this ‘Cinemawall’ effectively ushers in a complete transformation of the living room. The beauty of this is that several other elements can be incorporated into the design simultaneously. For instance, the living room lacked ambient lighting, and the acoustics were somewhat harsh and reflective—issues that we addressed directly within the design.

Reference light statement

The central positioning of the ‘Cinemawall’ created a perfect space to its left for a small ‘Reference Sounds’ statement—or, perhaps more accurately, a ‘Reference Light’ statement. We designed a floor-to-ceiling wall lamp as an integrated feature of the cabinetry, casting a beautiful, indirect glow against a marble-effect back panel. The lamp’s form is both bold and elegant when switched off, while it radiates a stunning, atmospheric light when illuminated. Thanks to the use of Philips Hue Gradient technology, it can display any color imaginable, making it far more than just a lamp.

Integrated LED lighting

Above and to the right of the Cinemawall, we incorporated open compartments that provide space for accessories. The integrated LED lighting accentuates the clean lines of the unit and adds significant depth to the black oak-look texture. Below the Cinemawall, we created a continuous base cabinet with room for amplifiers, a game console, books, and a stack of throws for those cold winter evenings.

Atmospheric focal point of the living room

We extended the cabinetry toward the fireplace, which we enhanced with a chic accent—a pair of gold-toned strips. This same detail is echoed in the wall lamp to the left of the ‘cinema wall.’ It transforms the fireplace into an inviting focal point for the living room, ensuring it no longer feels disconnected from the rest of the space. Next to the fireplace, we continued the sightlines of the wall unit, creating a large niche designed to showcase a piece of art or an elegant vase. Here, too, we opted for a marble-look back panel.

Ceiling element with integrated lighting

Since the acoustics in this space could benefit from some additional sound dampening, we designed a ceiling element with integrated lighting.

The ceiling element contains acoustic material to minimize harsh reflections and is fully upholstered in a luxurious, acoustically transparent fabric.

We incorporated three standard recessed spotlights and four adjustable spotlights into the element, allowing every corner of the room to be illuminated in an atmospheric way.

Bullseye

Before a single board was even cut, we translated all these ideas into a series of stunning 3D renders. This was the moment we were truly able to bring the client into our vision—and it proved to be an absolute bullseye. Now, a few months later, those drawings have become reality: a floor-to-ceiling wall unit featuring a seamlessly integrated ‘Cinemawall.’ It is a design full of atmosphere, executed to the highest possible standard—sleek yet elegant, bold yet warm. Thanks to adjustable lighting, the ambiance can be tailored to suit any mood or film genre. This Cinemawall makes such a powerful statement that you might almost forget that the core of the design is its incredible sound. This is just how beautiful sound can be.
